Maui, Hawaii in the Summer

Maui, Hawaii in the Summer

Day 1: landed, drinks at la Catrina while we wait for our table for dinner at Monkey Pod in Wailea (Highly recommend), shopping at Target.

Day 2: Lahaina front Street - lunch at Captain James Cook (very meh), Banyan Tree, Museum, Hat shopping, Sunset at Haleakala Summit (take warm clothes). Dinner at Maui Brewing Co (Recommended again, also since it's one of the only places open late but relatively better veggie options)

Day 3: Wake up early, Scuba Diving, sunburn, gopro. Lunch at Paia, Road to Hana - 2 stops. Check in at the hotel, Dinner at the Ranch restaurant and Pool Party :D and the golf carts (Gypsy Uncle)

Day 4: Morning in Hana - Local Coffee adda, banana bread, local grocery store - full small town feels. Back to the hotel for some chilling, checkout, lunch at the local adda again - food trucks - tacos and shrimp. the Pools of Oahu, Pipiwei Trail 2 hours, rain, done. Drive back, no stops :D Check in at Wailuku Inn - order the worst ever chicken and then ate old pizza (Gypsy Uncle)

Day 5: New starbucks, lazy day. Call a bunch of Luaus, drive to Kaanapali beach. Two amazing lunches - name of first ?  second - Hula Grill (drinks and dessert) by the ocean and live music! then in the ocean :D Shopping, drive down to the blowhole – eeee. Dinner ? Oops Sunday night, Domino's!

Day 6 - Fun not over yet! Two coffee shops, one missed flight, some more shopping and 6 hours later, back to San Jose

Must Do's -

  1. Download the Gypsy Guide app on your phone and use anywhere while in the car to know their history
  2. The Road to Hana - Black Sand Beach - Wainapanapa (BOOK IN ADVANCE)
  3. The Road to Hana - The Pipiwei trail - starts 50minutes ahead of hana town and takes two hours, make sure to be done by 4pm max so you can drive back. The trail anyway closes at 5pm.
  4. Sunrise/Sunset at Halaekala - The drive is longish, time it well so you dont miss the sunset/rise. Also super cold at the top. People use beach towels/blankets from hotels and what not to stay warm
  5. the Luau Experience - a dance and dinner evening - BOOK IN ADVANCE
  6. Recommend making a visit to the local Target one day 1 since Grocery stores are not easy to find and stock up on water and some snacks for the remaining days.

Best in Food (amongst the few that had last minute seating available, we didnt get to most of the popular ones)  BOOK IN ADVANCE -

  1. Monkey Pod Wailea
  2. Hula Grill Kaanapali (dont know about food, but view !)
  3. Maui Brewing Co - decent food and some veggie options, great vibe, no view.
  4. Local Coffee Shops - And then bring back bags of Kona Coffee for the poor souls who weren't vacationing in Hawaii like you.

Must Carry -

  1. Rain jackets, preferably light ones for the pipiwei trail
  2. A warm jacket for Halaekala summit
  3. Beach Towels (we bought oversized ones at Target) - They stayed in the trunk and were useful in so many ways
  4. Sun Screen - face and body and use it EVERYDAY AND EVERYWHERE multiple times. I got a terrible skin burn with hurt really bad - also it's not good for health.
  5. Comfy shorts and summery dresses
  6. Take more clothes than you think you need since they get wet and never dry
  7. Swim Suit if you plan to do any water sports
  8. Hair Products to keep your Frizz in control.
  9. Sunglasses, duh.
